"1H" o "1st Half" sa sportsbook? Ibig sabihin, unang kalahati lang ng laro ang bibilangin sa taya mo. Pagdating ng halftime, settled na ang bet, panalo man o talo, kahit ano pang mangyari sa second half.
This guide explains how first-half bets work across sports, how they're settled, and when they can make sense. For odds basics, see betting odds explained.

What "1st half" means
A first-half bet is settled using only the score at halftime. In basketball, that's the end of the second quarter. In football, it's the end of the first 45 minutes plus stoppage time. Everything after halftime is ignored.
Most main bet types have a first-half version:
- 1H moneyline: which team leads at halftime. In basketball, a tied half usually means a push (refund) in 2-way markets; in football, the first-half 1X2 includes a draw option.
- 1H spread / handicap: the first-half margin compared to a smaller line, typically about half the full-game spread.
- 1H total: combined first-half points or goals, over or under a line.
- 1H team total: one team's first-half score.
Examples
Basketball (PBA)
Full-game line: Team A -6.5. First-half line: Team A -3.5, total 1H 101.5.
Halftime score: Team A 54, Team B 49. Team A leads by 5.
- 1H Team A -3.5: wins (5 > 3.5).
- 1H total 101.5: 103 points, Over wins.
Even if Team B wins the game, these first-half bets are already won.
NBA
1H spread Team C -4, halftime lead exactly 4: push, stake returned.
Football
1H result market: Home 3.10, Draw 2.05, Away 4.20. Halftime 0-0: Draw wins. First-half goal lines are usually 0.5, 1.0 or 1.25.
Overtime and extra time don't count
This is the biggest difference from full-game bets. First-half bets are settled at halftime, so overtime, extra time and penalties never affect them. That can be an advantage: a game you correctly read for 24 minutes won't be ruined by a late collapse or an overtime period.
Typical first-half lines
| Sport | Full-game example | 1H example |
|---|---|---|
| NBA spread | -7.5 | -4 to -4.5 |
| NBA total | 226.5 | 113.5–115.5 |
| PBA spread | -6.5 | -3.5 |
| PBA total | 204.5 | 101.5–103.5 |
| Football goals | 2.5 | 1.0 or 1.25 |
First-half totals are often slightly more than half the full-game total in basketball, because fourth quarters can be slower when games are decided, or faster with late fouling, depending on the matchup.
Half-time/Full-time (HT/FT) bets
A related market predicts both the halftime and full-time result, for example "Home/Home" (leading at half and winning) or "Draw/Away." There are nine combinations in football. Odds can be attractive because you're predicting two things at once, but it's harder to win. Comebacks like "Away/Home" carry big prices for a reason.
Quarters and other periods
Basketball books also offer quarter bets (1Q, 2Q, 3Q, 4Q) and second-half bets. Second-half markets usually include overtime unless stated otherwise, so always check the rules. Esports may offer "first map" or "first 10 minutes" markets, and volleyball offers first-set bets, which work in the same spirit as first-half betting. See MLBB odds explained and volleyball set handicap explained.
When first-half bets can make sense
- Strong starters: teams that start fast because of their starting five but have weak benches.
- Rest and rotations: stars who may sit late in blowouts are more relevant in the first half.
- Avoiding garbage time: late-game benches can wreck full-game spreads; the first half avoids that.
- Coaching tendencies: some coaches adjust well at halftime, making their teams stronger second-half bets and weaker first-half bets.
- Back-to-backs: tired teams may fade late, which matters more for full-game bets.
Risks and downsides
- Smaller sample: half a game means more randomness. A hot shooting quarter decides many first-half bets.
- Margins: first-half markets can carry slightly larger bookmaker margins than full-game lines.
- Pushes on whole lines: common with lines like -3 or -4.
- Lower limits: some books cap first-half stakes.

How to research first-half bets
Full-game statistics hide a lot. A team might average a 5-point winning margin overall but actually trail at halftime in many games before pulling away late with a strong bench or better conditioning. Another might build big early leads with its starters and then let opponents back in. To research first-half bets, look at halftime scores rather than final scores. Many stats sites list quarter-by-quarter results, which let you calculate how often a team covers first-half spreads or goes over first-half totals. Even a quick look at the last ten games' halftime scores can reveal patterns that full-game numbers miss.
Line-up news matters too. If a key starter is questionable, that affects first-half lines more than full-game lines, because starters play a bigger share of first-half minutes. Conversely, a deep team missing a bench player might barely change in the first half. Adjust your thinking based on who actually plays early minutes.
First half in the PBA and UAAP
In the PBA, imports often play heavy minutes early in reinforced conferences, so a strong import can make a team especially dangerous in first halves. Some teams rely on veterans who start fast but tire, while younger squads may finish stronger. In collegiate leagues such as the UAAP, first halves can be chaotic, with young players settling nerves, and coaches making bigger halftime adjustments. That means first-half lines in college games can be less predictable, which cuts both ways: more variance, but also more chances for a well-informed read to beat the line.
Live betting at halftime
Once the first half ends, most books open second-half markets and update full-game live lines. Some bettors wait for halftime to see how a game is unfolding before betting the second half, using information like foul trouble, injuries during the game, or a team clearly struggling with a matchup. This approach can be sensible, but the halftime window is short, and it's easy to bet emotionally after a first-half result. Decide in advance what kind of situation would make you bet the second half, and skip it if that situation doesn't appear. See our live betting tips.
A worked first-half betting plan
Here's how a disciplined bettor might use first-half markets on an NBA morning. She notices Team A's starting five has a strong net rating, but its bench has been poor for weeks. The full-game spread is Team A -5.5, while the first-half spread is -3. She expects Team A's starters to build a lead and the bench to give some back, so she bets one unit on Team A 1H -3 instead of the full game. At halftime Team A leads by 8, and her bet is settled as a win. In the fourth quarter, the bench lets Team B close to 4, which would have lost the full-game spread. That's the scenario first-half betting is designed for.
First-half bets in football: special notes
Football first halves tend to be lower scoring than second halves, partly because teams take fewer risks early and partly because fatigue and substitutions open games up later. That's why the first-half goal line is usually around 1.0 rather than 1.25 or 1.5. A 0-0 halftime is a common result, often priced around 2.50 to 3.00 in the first-half draw market. If you bet first-half overs in football, you're betting against that natural tendency, so you'll want a strong reason, such as two attacking teams with weak defences or a favourite that typically starts very fast. Asian handicap lines for the first half follow the same rules as full-game handicaps, just with smaller numbers.
Common mistakes
- Assuming overtime counts. It never does for 1H bets.
- Using full-game lines in your head. Check the actual 1H line.
- Forgetting the tie rule. In basketball 2-way 1H moneylines, a tie at the half is usually a push; in some books there's a 3-way option instead.
- Overbetting quick results. Fast settlement can tempt you to chain bets.
Taglish recap
