Betting odds and results board.

Moneyline sa isang pangungusap

A moneyline bet is a bet on which team or player will win the game or match outright. If your pick wins, you win. If it loses, you lose. Ganun lang.

The name comes from American sports betting, where odds are written as "money lines" like -150 or +130. In decimal odds markets, you might just see "Match Winner," "1X2" or "To Win." It's the same idea.

How to read moneyline odds

Decimal odds

TeamDecimal odds₱100 bet returns
Team A (favourite)1.67₱167 (₱67 profit)
Team B (underdog)2.30₱230 (₱130 profit)

Lower decimal = more likely to win = smaller payout. Higher decimal = less likely = bigger payout.

American odds

Team A-150Bet ₱150 to win ₱100 profit
Team B+130Bet ₱100 to win ₱130 profit

Minus = favourite, plus = underdog. Our plus minus odds explained page covers conversions in depth.

Implied probability: ano ang sinasabi ng odds

Every moneyline reflects a probability. For decimal odds, divide 1 by the odds:

Add them: about 103.4%. The extra 3.4% is the bookmaker's margin, sometimes called the overround. It's why both sides together "add up" to more than 100%. For a full walkthrough, see plus minus odds to probability.

2-way vs 3-way moneyline

2-way (no draw)

Sports like basketball, tennis, volleyball and most esports have no draws in the final result, or settle with overtime. You pick one of two sides.

3-way (with draw), football

In football, a draw is common, so the main market is 1X2: home win (1), draw (X), away win (2). If you bet Team A to win and it ends 1-1, you lose. Some books also offer "Draw No Bet," which refunds your stake on a draw, a bit like a level handicap.

Overtime and extra time rules

Always check the market rules on your sportsbook.

If you think an underdog can win outright, the moneyline pays much more than the spread. If you think a favourite wins big, the spread pays more than its moneyline. See ano ang spread sa betting.

Moneyline in popular Filipino betting sports

PBA and NBA

Moneylines are popular in close matchups. For big mismatches, favourites can be 1.10 or lower, which isn't worth much on its own. Many bettors use those short favourites in parlays, which carries its own risks.

Boxing

Fight winner is essentially a moneyline. Filipino fight fans often bet local fighters on the moneyline; just remember that heart and value are different things. Check paano tumaya sa boxing.

Volleyball (PVL, UAAP)

Match winner moneylines are common, with set handicaps for mismatches.

Esports (MLBB, Valorant, Dota 2)

Match winner is the main market. In best-of-one games, upsets are more frequent, which can make underdog moneylines interesting.

Paano malalaman kung may value ang moneyline

Value means the odds pay more than the true chance deserves. Suppose you believe Team B has a 50% chance of winning, but the book prices it at 2.30 (43.5% implied). That's value: you'd profit long-term if your estimate is right. If you think it has only 40%, then 2.30 is a bad price even though it "looks" juicy.

Simple process:

  1. Estimate the chance yourself, using form, injuries, matchups and rest.
  2. Convert the odds to implied probability.
  3. Bet only when your estimate is clearly higher than the implied probability.

Moneyline parlays

Combining several moneylines into a parlay multiplies the odds, but every leg must win. Three favourites at 1.50 each make 3.38, but the chance of all three winning is lower than it feels. Bookmaker margins also stack. Our ano ang parlay guide explains how this works.

Why favourites aren't automatically "safe"

Many new bettors fall into the same trap: they only bet on heavy favourites because they "almost always win." The problem is the maths. At odds of 1.20, you need to win more than 83 percent of the time just to break even, before considering the bookmaker's margin. A single upset cancels out five wins. Favourites at those prices lose more often than people remember, because upsets stick in the mind less than a string of small wins. If you love favourites, consider the spread instead, or skip games where the price is too short to be worth the risk.

When underdogs make sense

Underdogs win less often, but their bigger payouts mean you don't need to hit many to come out ahead. At 3.00, you only need to win one bet in three to break even. The key is picking underdogs whose real chances are better than the odds suggest. Common situations include favourites playing their third game in a few days, teams resting key players late in a season, best-of-one esports matches where variance is high, and markets that overreact to one big win or loss. Betting underdogs requires patience, since losing streaks are longer, but it's where many disciplined bettors find value.

How bookmakers set moneylines

A sportsbook estimates the true chance of each outcome, converts it to odds, then trims those odds to include its margin. For example, if it thinks a game is exactly 50/50, fair odds would be 2.00 for both sides, but it may offer 1.91 on each. If betting comes in heavily on one side, the book shortens that side and lengthens the other to balance its risk. That's why moneylines move in the hours before a game, and why the same match can have slightly different prices at different books. Comparing prices before you bet is one of the easiest ways to improve results without any extra analysis.

Moneyline and live betting

Moneylines are also offered during the game, updating with every score. If a strong team falls behind early, its live moneyline may jump from 1.40 to 2.50. Some bettors use this to back a favourite they trust at a better price; others hedge an earlier bet. Live moneylines move fast and can be suspended during key moments like free throws or penalty kicks. Decide your plan before the game starts, and avoid making impulsive bets after a dramatic swing. Our live betting tips page has more.

Keeping a simple betting log

Write down every moneyline bet: date, match, your pick, the odds, the stake and the result. After 50 to 100 bets, patterns appear. You might discover you do well on underdogs in volleyball but lose on NBA favourites. Without a log, memory tends to remember wins and forget losses. Some bettors also note the closing odds to see whether they consistently get better prices than the market's final number, a reliable sign of skill.

Converting between formats quickly

You'll often see American moneylines in tips and social media posts, but your sportsbook may show decimal. Here's how to switch. For a plus number, divide by 100 and add 1: +130 becomes 2.30. For a minus number, divide 100 by the number (ignoring the minus) and add 1: -150 becomes 1.67. Going the other way, decimal odds of 2.00 or higher become plus numbers: subtract 1 and multiply by 100, so 2.80 becomes +180. Decimal odds below 2.00 become minus numbers: divide 100 by (decimal minus 1), so 1.50 becomes -200. With a bit of practice, you'll convert in your head.

Moneyline for tennis, MMA and other one-on-one sports

Individual sports are natural moneyline markets because there's no team depth to analyse, just two competitors. In tennis, retirements mid-match can affect settlement, and books have different rules about whether bets stand if a player retires after the first set. In MMA, like boxing, draws are rare but possible, so check whether your book offers a 2-way market with a refund on a draw or a 3-way market. Form, styles and recent injuries matter more than reputation, and big-name fighters are often overpriced because the public loves to back them.

Common mistakes

  1. "Safe" favourites at 1.10: one loss wipes out ten wins.
  2. Forgetting the draw in football 1X2 markets.
  3. Betting with your heart on your team or a local fighter.
  4. Ignoring line moves caused by injuries.
  5. Not comparing odds: 1.85 vs 1.95 is a big difference over time.

Worked examples

Example 1: Favourite

You bet ₱1,000 on Team A at 1.45. They win. Return ₱1,450, profit ₱450.

Example 2: Underdog

You bet ₱500 on Team B at +180 (2.80). They win. Return ₱1,400, profit ₱900.

Example 3: Football draw

You bet ₱300 on Team A to win at 2.10. Result 0-0. You lose, because the draw was a separate outcome.

Example 4: Draw No Bet

You bet ₱300 on Team A Draw No Bet at 1.55. Result 0-0. Stake refunded.
