Ang kahulugan ng parlay
Sa sports betting, ang parlay ay isang taya na binubuo ng dalawa o higit pang magkakahiwalay na taya. Para manalo, lahat ng bahagi ay dapat tumama. Kapag may isang mali, talo ang buong taya.
In English, the simplest definition: a parlay is a single bet that links multiple selections, with the winnings from each carried over to the next. That "carry over" idea is the key. Your winnings from leg one effectively become your stake on leg two, and so on. That's why payouts grow so quickly.
Saan galing ang salitang "parlay"?
The word comes from the French paroli, a term from old card games meaning to let your winnings ride, doubling your stake after a win. Through Italian and French gambling usage it reached English as "parlay," first used for gambling around the late 19th century. Over time it gained a second, everyday meaning.
Parlay outside betting
In ordinary English, "to parlay" means to use something you have to gain something bigger. Halimbawa:
- "She parlayed her viral video into a TV career."
- "He parlayed a small sari-sari store into a chain of minimarts."
It's the same idea as the bet: start small and keep building on each success. So if you see "parlay" in a news article that has nothing to do with sports, that's what it means.
Paano ginagamit ng Pinoy ang "parlay"
In Filipino betting talk, "parlay" is used as a noun and a verb:
- "Mag-parlay tayo." Let's build a combined bet.
- "Na-parlay ko lahat ng NBA games." I put all the NBA games in one ticket.
- "Sumabit ang parlay." The parlay lost (often by one leg).
- "Tumama ang 5-leg parlay!" A five-selection parlay won.
- "Pang-parlay lang 'yan." Said about a heavy favourite people add to tickets.

Parlay vs straight bet
A straight bet (or single) is one selection on one ticket. It wins or loses on its own. A parlay links several straights so they depend on each other.
| Straight bet | Parlay | |
|---|---|---|
| Bilang ng picks | 1 | 2 o higit pa |
| Kailan panalo | Kapag tumama ang pick | Kapag tumama LAHAT |
| Laki ng bayad | Katamtaman | Malaki, lumalaki bawat leg |
| Tsansa | Mas mataas | Mababa, bumababa bawat leg |
Quick example para malinaw
Tatlong pick: Team A to win (1.80), Team B -3.5 (1.90), Over 205.5 (1.85). Multiply: 1.80 × 1.90 × 1.85 = 6.33. Sa ₱100 na taya, ₱633 ang balik kung lahat tumama. Kung isa lang ang mali, ₱0. The full maths, including what happens with pushes and voids, is in our main parlay guide.
Why the word feels exciting
Part of the appeal is right in the meaning: turning a little into a lot. That's also why it's risky. The same "let it ride" idea means one loss takes everything. Understanding the meaning helps you set the right expectation: a parlay is a long shot by design.

Mga karaniwang maling akala
- "Parlay = mas madaling manalo." Mali. Mas mahirap, kaya mas malaki ang bayad.
- "Kapag isang leg lang ang mali, may bawas lang." Hindi. Talo ang buong taya, maliban kung may promo o round robin.
- "Puwedeng ihalo kahit anong taya." Hindi lahat. May mga correlated na taya na hindi pinapayagan.
- "Ang parlay ay ilegal." Ang parlay ay bet type lang. Ang legalidad ay depende sa operator at sa batas.
Parlay cards: ang lumang bersyon
Before betting apps, bookmakers in the United States printed "parlay cards," paper sheets listing many games with fixed lines. Bettors ticked several picks and handed the card in with their stake. The payouts were fixed in advance, for example 6-to-1 for three correct picks, and ties often counted as losses, which made the cards very profitable for bookies. The modern app parlay is more flexible and usually treats pushes more fairly, but the basic idea, many picks, one ticket, big payout, is exactly the same.
Paano basahin ang parlay ticket
When you place a parlay, your sportsbook shows a ticket with several parts. Understanding each one helps you avoid mistakes:
- Selections: each leg, with the team, market (moneyline, spread, total) and the line.
- Odds per leg: the price at the time you placed the bet.
- Total odds: all legs multiplied together.
- Stake: how much you risked.
- Potential return: stake times total odds, including your stake.
- Status: open, won, lost, void or cashed out, often shown per leg.
Always check the ticket before confirming. A common error is picking the wrong line, such as -4.5 when you meant +4.5, or adding a leg from the wrong day.
Parlay sa iba't ibang sports: sample usage
- Basketball: "Parlay ko ang tatlong PBA spreads ngayong gabi."
- Football: "Acca ng limang home wins sa weekend."
- Esports: "MLBB parlay: dalawang team to win 2-0."
- Boxing: "Parlay ng dalawang fighters sa undercard at main event."
- Mixed: "Isang NBA moneyline plus isang Premier League over 2.5."
Mixing sports is allowed at most books, as long as the events are open for betting.
Legal ba ang parlay sa Pilipinas?
Parlay is just a type of bet. Whether betting is legal depends on where you bet and who you are, not the bet type. PAGCOR-licensed sportsbooks can offer parlays to eligible players: 21 and over, not students, not government employees, not AFP or PNP. Offshore sites licensed elsewhere offer them too but sit outside PAGCOR's system. Underground "parlay agents" who collect bets by chat and e-wallet are illegal and risky.
Taglish recap
Ang parlay ay galing sa salitang French na "paroli," ibig sabihin ay hayaang tumaya ulit ang panalo. Sa betting, ito ay isang ticket na may maraming pick o "legs," at kailangang tumama lahat. Sa ordinaryong English, ang "to parlay" ay paggamit ng maliit na bagay para makakuha ng mas malaki. Kapag narinig mo ang "sumabit" o "isang leg na lang," alam mo na: may parlay na halos tumama pero natalo pa rin.
Related words you might confuse with parlay
A few terms sound similar but mean different things. Parley, spelled with an "e," means a discussion or negotiation, often between opponents, as in "a parley between the two generals." It has nothing to do with betting. Martingale is a betting system where you double your stake after each loss, the opposite of a parlay's "let winnings ride" approach. Progressive betting is a general term for systems that change stake size based on results. And combo bet is simply a casual name some apps use for a parlay. Knowing the difference helps you read betting content and news without confusion.
