Andar Bahar in one minute
The name means "inside" (Andar) and "outside" (Bahar) in Hindi. Ganito ang flow ng isang round:
- The middle card. The dealer shuffles a standard 52-card deck and turns one card face up in the centre. Many online tables call this the "joker", pero hindi ito wild card. It just sets the rank everyone is chasing for this round. Say it's a 7 of clubs: now any 7 is the target.
- You pick a side. Place your chips on Andar or Bahar. Some tables also take side bets at this point (more on those below).
- Alternate dealing. The dealer deals cards one at a time, left then right then left, onto the Andar and Bahar rows.
- First match wins. The moment a card with the same rank as the middle card lands (any suit), that row wins and the round ends. Suit does not matter for the main bet.
That's it. Walang drawing decisions, walang "hit or stand". Your only real choices are which side, how much, and whether to touch the side bets. Simple ang laro, kaya ang edge mo ay nasa discipline at pagpili ng tamang bet, hindi sa "diskarte" sa pagbasa ng cards.
The odds: why the first row wins more often
Here is the part most guides skip. After the middle card is shown, 51 cards are left and only 3 of them match its rank. The row that gets the first dealt card gets the first shot at a match, so it has a small built-in head start.
Worked out exactly over all possible deal orders, the row dealt first wins about 51.50% of rounds and the row dealt second wins about 48.50%. Gambling maths site Wizard of Odds lists the same split (51.5006% vs 48.4994%) for the version where Andar always gets the first card. The very first card is a match about 5.88% of the time (3 out of 51), and on average the match arrives on the 13th card dealt.
| Cards dealt before the match | Chance the round ends in this range |
|---|---|
| 1-5 | 27.1% |
| 6-10 | 21.7% |
| 11-15 | 16.9% |
| 16-25 | 21.8% |
| 26-30 | 6.1% |
| 31-35 | 3.7% |
| 36-40 | 1.9% |
| 41 or more | 0.8% |
We computed these from the same one-deck setup (3 matching cards among 51). About half of rounds finish within 10 cards, kaya mabilis talaga ang laro. Keep that speed in mind, because speed is what makes the house edge add up.
Which row is "first"?
This depends on the table. In many versions the first card always goes to Andar. In the traditional rule described by the card-game reference site Pagat, the colour of the middle card decides: black means Andar gets the first card, red means Bahar does. Some live tables simply flip the advantage by changing the payout. Before you bet, open the game's rules or help panel and check two things: which side receives the first card, and what each side pays.
Payouts and house edge
If both rows paid even money, the first row would actually favour the player. That's why casinos trim the payout on the side dealt first. The most common structure pays 0.9 to 1 on the first row and 1 to 1 on the second.
| Bet | Win chance | Typical payout | House edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Row dealt first | 51.50% | 0.9 to 1 | about 2.15% |
| Row dealt first (stingier table) | 51.50% | 0.85 to 1 | about 4.72% |
| Row dealt second | 48.50% | 1 to 1 | about 3.00% |
| Row dealt second (stingier table) | 48.50% | 0.95 to 1 | about 5.43% |
The formula is easy to check yourself: (win chance × payout) minus (lose chance). For the first row at 0.9 to 1: 0.515 × 0.9 − 0.485 = −0.0215, or a 2.15% edge. Sa madaling salita: on the usual payout, the slightly lower-paying side is still the cheaper bet. A lot of new players chase the "full pay" side because it feels like better value, pero mas mahal pala sa long run.
Some online versions use a different structure entirely, for example a reduced payout only when the very first card matches. The same sum still works: plug in the table's real numbers and you get its edge.
What a session costs you in pesos
House edge is easier to feel when you turn it into money. Here's the expected cost at an example pace of 60 rounds an hour (live tables vary, and auto-dealt RNG versions can go much faster):
| Bet per round | Rounds | Total wagered | Expected cost, first row (2.15%) | Expected cost, second row (3.00%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₱50 | 60 | ₱3,000 | about ₱64 | about ₱90 |
| ₱100 | 60 | ₱6,000 | about ₱129 | about ₱180 |
| ₱200 | 60 | ₱12,000 | about ₱258 | about ₱360 |
These are averages. In a real hour you could be up ₱1,500 or down ₱1,500 at ₱100 a round, because nearly coin-flip bets swing a lot over 60 rounds. But over many sessions, the numbers in the right two columns are what the game charges you. Ituring mo itong "entrance fee" ng entertainment mo.
Side bets: fun, but usually pricier
Online and live versions often add side bets. Common ones:
- Middle card bets. Before the middle card is revealed, bet on its suit, colour, whether it's high or low, or its exact rank.
- Number of cards dealt. Bet on a range for how many cards come out before the match, such as 1-5, 6-10, 11-15 and so on, each with its own payout.
- Second-chance bets. A few tables let you bet again after the first two cards if neither matched.
Payouts differ by studio, so we can't give one house edge for all of them. What we can say: side bets on a range of card counts are just the probability table above with a price attached. Use it as a check. For example, if a table pays the 1-5 range at less than about 2.7 to 1, it's paying less than the fair price for a 27.1% shot (fair odds = (1 − 0.271) ÷ 0.271 ≈ 2.69 to 1). Most side bets are priced with a fatter edge than the main rows, so treat them as small "pampagana" bets, not your main play.

Live dealer vs RNG Andar Bahar
| Live dealer | RNG (digital) | |
|---|---|---|
| Pace | Slower, about a minute a round | As fast as you click |
| Feel | Real cards, real dealer, chat | Animated, solo |
| Cost per hour | Lower, because fewer rounds | Can be much higher at the same stake |
| Best for | Casual, social play | Short, small-stake sessions only |
Kung RNG ang lalaruin mo, set a round limit. At 300 rounds an hour, a ₱100 first-row bet costs about ₱645 on average, five times the live table figure, kahit pareho ang house edge.
Common Andar Bahar myths
- "Andar ang palaging panalo." Only true in the sense that the first row wins slightly more often. Once the reduced payout is applied, neither side beats the house.
- "Sundan mo ang streak." Each round is a fresh shuffle. Five Bahar wins in a row tell you nothing about round six.
- "Black middle card is lucky." Colour only matters if the table uses it to decide which row gets the first card. It doesn't change your edge once you've read the payout.
- "Martingale fixes it." Doubling after losses just turns many small wins into rare big losses. With table limits, one bad run can wipe your bankroll.
A simple way to play it
- Read the rules panel: which row is dealt first, and what each row pays.
- Pick the cheaper main bet (usually the first row at 0.9 to 1) and stick to it, or alternate for fun knowing the cost.
- Choose a flat stake of 1-2% of your session budget. With ₱5,000 for the night, that's ₱50-100 a round.
- Decide a stop point both ways, for example stop at −₱2,000 or +₱2,000.
- Keep side bets to a tiny slice, like one chip every few rounds, if at all.
Example (made up for illustration): Paolo in Quezon City brings ₱4,000 in USDT to a live table, bets ₱80 on the first row each round and allows himself one ₱20 card-count side bet every ten rounds. After 50 minutes he's down ₱640 and stops, as planned. Walang habol, walang tilt, and he still had fun. That's the right mindset.
Where to play Andar Bahar online with crypto
Andar Bahar is mostly found in live casino lobbies from studios that focus on Asian and Indian games; Ezugi, for example, runs a live Andar Bahar table. Whether a specific casino carries it changes over time, so search the lobby for "Andar Bahar" before you deposit anything.
If you play with crypto, Cloudbet is one option to check. It runs a large casino with live tables and accepts coins like BTC, ETH and USDT. Ang dapat mong malaman: Cloudbet is licensed in Curaçao, not by PAGCOR. Philippine law treats online gambling that is not licensed by PAGCOR as illegal, so you carry that legal risk yourself. We haven't verified that an Andar Bahar table is live in Cloudbet's lobby right now, so check the search bar first. Our live casino Philippines guide covers how live tables work, and if you still need crypto, see paano bumili ng USDT sa GCash.
Andar Bahar vs other quick card games
| Game | Main bet house edge | Decisions |
|---|---|---|
| Andar Bahar (first row 0.9:1) | about 2.15% | None after betting |
| Baccarat (Banker) | about 1.06% | None after betting |
| Dragon Tiger (main bet) | about 3.73% | None after betting |
If you like that style of game, Banker in baccarat is cheaper still; see baccarat banker vs player odds. For another fast table, our Dragon Tiger rules page explains why its tie rule makes it pricier.

Mga Madalas Itanong (FAQ)
Is Andar Bahar legal to play online in the Philippines?
Only PAGCOR-licensed operators are legal. Offshore crypto casinos such as Cloudbet (Curaçao-licensed) are not PAGCOR-licensed, and Philippine law treats unlicensed online gambling as illegal, so you take on that risk.

The side that gets the first dealt card wins about 51.5% of rounds. On the common 0.9 to 1 payout it has about a 2.15% house edge, versus about 3.00% on the other side at 1 to 1, so it is usually the cheaper bet.
What is the joker card in Andar Bahar?
It's the middle card turned face up at the start. It isn't wild; it only sets the rank that both rows are trying to match.

How many cards are usually dealt?
On average the match comes on about the 13th card, and roughly half of rounds end within 10 cards.
Can you win Andar Bahar with a strategy?
