Valorant betting menus are full of handicaps: −1.5 maps, +2.5 maps, −3.5 rounds, +4.5 rounds. They let you bet on how convincingly a team wins rather than just who wins, which is handy when a favourite's price is too short to be interesting.
This guide explains both kinds of Valorant handicap, how they settle, and how to judge whether a price is fair. For the basics of Valorant betting, see our Valorant betting guide.

Two kinds of handicap
- Map handicap: applied to the series score (for example, a Bo3 finishing 2-1).
- Round handicap: applied to the round score on a single map (for example, 13-9).
Read the market label carefully. "Team A −1.5" in a series market means maps; "Team A −1.5" on a Map 1 market means rounds.
How a Valorant match is scored
Each map is played until one team wins 13 rounds. If the score reaches 12-12, the map goes to overtime, where a team must win by two rounds. Professional matches are usually best of three maps, with best of five for grand finals and some playoff stages. Teams pick and ban maps in a veto process before the series, which matters for handicaps.
Map handicap in a Bo3
| Line | Wins if... | Loses if... |
|---|---|---|
| Team A −1.5 maps | A wins 2-0 | A wins 2-1, or loses |
| Team B +1.5 maps | B wins, or loses 1-2 | B loses 0-2 |
These two are mirror images: whenever one wins, the other loses. There are no pushes because the lines use half-maps.
Map handicap in a Bo5
| Line | Wins if... |
|---|---|
| Team A −1.5 maps | A wins 3-0 or 3-1 |
| Team A −2.5 maps | A wins 3-0 |
| Team B +1.5 maps | B wins, or loses 2-3 |
| Team B +2.5 maps | B wins at least one map |
Turning map handicap prices into probabilities
If you estimate a team's chance of winning a single map (p), and treat maps as roughly independent, you can calculate the chance of each series result.
| Per-map chance (p) | 2-0 | 2-1 | Series win | Fair −1.5 price | Fair series price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 55% | 30.3% | 27.2% | 57.5% | 3.31 | 1.74 |
| 60% | 36.0% | 28.8% | 64.8% | 2.78 | 1.54 |
| 65% | 42.3% | 29.6% | 71.8% | 2.37 | 1.39 |
| 70% | 49.0% | 29.4% | 78.4% | 2.04 | 1.28 |
Example: a team priced 1.40 to win the series (71% implied) and 2.20 at −1.5 maps (45% implied). If you rate it at 65% per map, the fair −1.5 is about 2.37, so 2.20 is a little short. If you rate it at 70%, the fair −1.5 is 2.04, and 2.20 looks like value. Small changes in your per-map estimate move these numbers a lot, so be honest about uncertainty.
Why maps aren't really independent
The table assumes each map is a fresh coin flip weighted by p. In reality:
- The veto matters. Each team usually picks a map it's comfortable on. A team strong on its own pick but weak on the opponent's makes 2-1 results more common than the simple model suggests.
- Momentum and tilt exist, though they're often overstated.
- The decider map is often one neither team prefers, which can make it more of a coin flip.
Because of the veto effect, many bettors find favourites −1.5 maps less reliable than the maths implies, and underdogs +1.5 maps a bit more attractive when the underdog has a strong map pick.
Round handicaps on a single map
A round handicap adds or subtracts rounds from a team's final score on one map.
| Final map score (A–B) | A −3.5 rounds | B +3.5 rounds | A −5.5 | B +5.5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 13-5 | Win | Lose | Win | Lose |
| 13-9 | Win | Lose | Lose | Win |
| 13-10 | Lose | Win | Lose | Win |
| 14-12 (OT) | Lose | Win | Lose | Win |
| 10-13 | Lose | Win | Lose | Win |
A team needs to win by four or more rounds to cover −3.5. Overtime results are always decided by two rounds, so an overtime win never covers −2.5 or more. That's a key detail for close matchups.
Series-level round handicaps
Some books offer a round handicap across the whole series, adding up rounds from every map. A team that wins 2-1 with scores of 13-4, 10-13, 13-11 has a total round margin of +8. Read whether the line is per map or series-wide.

Sides, maps and round handicaps
Each map has an attacking and a defending side, and teams swap at half-time (after 12 rounds). Some maps tend to favour defenders; others are more balanced. Patches and agent changes shift this over time. If a team plays its stronger side first and leads 8-4 at half-time, the second half may be closer, so the live round handicap might be more attractive for the trailing team than it looks. Understanding map side tendencies is one of the best edges in round handicap betting.
Worked peso examples
Bo3 map handicap
₱400 on Team A −1.5 maps at 2.30. Team A wins 2-0. Return: ₱920 (₱520 profit). If Team A had won 2-1, you'd lose ₱400.
Underdog +1.5 maps
₱300 on Team B +1.5 maps at 1.65. Team B loses 1-2. Return: ₱495 (₱195 profit).
Round handicap
₱200 on Team A −3.5 rounds on Map 1 at 1.90. Team A wins 13-8 (margin 5). Return: ₱380.
Overtime
₱200 on Team B +2.5 rounds on Map 2 at 1.80. Team A wins 15-13 in overtime. Team B's adjusted score is 15.5 vs 15, so the bet wins: ₱360.
How to use map handicaps sensibly
- Use −1.5 for dominant teams with deep map pools, where the opponent's map pick is unlikely to trouble them.
- Use +1.5 for underdogs with a strong map pick. One comfort map can be enough to cover.
- Check recent map pool data: win rates on each map over the last few months, with roster changes considered.
- Watch the veto if possible. Some books keep markets open until the series starts, so the map list can inform a late bet.
- Keep stakes modest. Handicaps are higher variance than series winners.
Estimating round margins
For round handicaps, think about how dominant a team is per round. A team that wins about 60% of rounds against an opponent will often win maps by scores like 13-8 or 13-9, but the spread of outcomes is wide. Pistol rounds and the economy that follows create swings of three or four rounds at a time. So even strong favourites miss −4.5 or −5.5 rounds fairly often. As a rough guide:
| Round win rate vs opponent | Typical winning score | Lines worth considering |
|---|---|---|
| 52–55% | 13-10, 13-11, often overtime | Underdog +2.5 or +3.5 |
| 56–60% | 13-8 to 13-10 | Favourite −2.5, carefully |
| 61–65% | 13-6 to 13-9 | Favourite −3.5 or −4.5 |
| 66%+ | 13-4 to 13-7 | Bigger handicaps, still volatile |
These are only rules of thumb, but they help you sense-check a line against your view of the matchup.
Common mistakes
- Confusing map and round handicaps on the same screen.
- Forgetting that overtime wins are only by two rounds.
- Assuming a favourite at 1.25 is a good −1.5 bet.
- Ignoring map veto and comfort picks.
- Stacking several −1.5 favourites into parlays.
- Overlooking roster changes; a new duelist or in-game leader can change a team's map pool overnight.
- Betting round handicaps on maps a team rarely plays, where there is little recent data.
Where Valorant handicaps are offered
Many international and crypto sportsbooks list Valorant, including VCT international events and regional leagues like VCT Pacific, where Filipino players and fans follow closely. Cloudbet offers Valorant markets with crypto; it is licensed in Curaçao, not by PAGCOR. See our Valorant betting site Philippines guide for options.
Taglish recap
Responsible betting
Only adults 21 and over may bet in the Philippines, and PAGCOR rules bar students and government employees. Many Valorant fans are students; please don't bet if that applies to you. Keep stakes small, and visit our responsible gambling page if you need support.
Should I bet map handicaps before or after the veto?
After, if your book keeps markets open, because the map list tells you whether each team gets its comfort picks. Prices may move once the veto is public.
Is a series-wide round handicap the same as a map round handicap?
No. A series-wide line adds the round margins from every map played, while a map line only uses one map's score.
Ano ang ibig sabihin ng −1.5 maps sa Valorant?
Sa Bo3, kailangang manalo ang team ng 2-0. Talo ang taya kapag 2-1.
What does −3.5 rounds mean on a Valorant map?
The team must win the map by four or more rounds, such as 13-9 or better.
Can an overtime win cover a round handicap?
Only lines of −1.5 rounds. Overtime wins are always by exactly two rounds, so they never cover −2.5 or more.
Is +1.5 maps a good bet for underdogs?
It can be, especially when the underdog has a strong map pick in the veto.
Are Valorant maps independent for betting purposes?
Not fully. Map veto and comfort picks make 2-1 results more common than a simple model suggests.
