What "void" means
A void bet is a bet that the sportsbook cancels and treats as if it never happened. Your stake is returned in full. There's no win and no loss. In settlement terms, a void bet is settled at odds of 1.00.
In Tagalog: kinansela ang taya at ibinalik ang pera mo.
Void vs push vs cancelled
| Term | What happened | Your money |
|---|---|---|
| Void | The bet was cancelled under the book's rules | Stake returned |
| Push | The result landed exactly on the line (e.g. -5 and won by 5) | Stake returned |
| Cancelled | Often used interchangeably with void, sometimes for bets rejected before acceptance | Stake returned or never taken |
Push and void both return your stake, but for different reasons. A push is a legitimate result on a whole-number line; a void is cancellation.
Common reasons bets are voided
1. Postponed or abandoned events
If a game is postponed and not played within a set period (often 24 to 48 hours, depending on the book), bets are usually voided. If a game is abandoned partway, bets on markets not yet decided are often void, while markets already settled (like first-half results) may stand.
2. Player doesn't participate
Player prop bets are typically void if the player doesn't play at all. Rules differ on what counts as "participating," so a player who plays one minute may still mean the bet stands.
3. Venue or format changes
Some books void bets if a game moves to a different venue, particularly where home advantage was part of the pricing, or if the match format changes (for example, a best-of-five becomes best-of-three).
4. Obvious pricing errors ("palpable errors")
If a book posts a clearly wrong price, say 15.00 instead of 1.50, its terms usually allow it to void or resettle bets at the correct price. This is controversial, but it's standard in most terms and conditions.
5. Bets placed after the start
If a pre-match bet was accepted after the event started due to a technical delay, it may be voided, especially if something significant happened.
6. Rule breaches
Bets may be voided if the book believes the account broke rules, such as multiple accounts, bonus abuse or suspicious betting linked to match-fixing. These voids can come with account restrictions.
7. Fighter or competitor withdrawal
In boxing and MMA, if a fighter withdraws and is replaced, bets on the original matchup are typically void.
How voids affect parlays
When one leg of a parlay is voided, most books simply remove that leg and recalculate the parlay with the remaining legs. The voided leg counts as 1.00.
Example: A four-leg parlay at 1.80 × 1.90 × 2.00 × 1.75 = 11.97. The 2.00 leg is voided. New odds: 1.80 × 1.90 × 1.75 = 5.99. If the other three win, a ₱200 stake returns ₱1,198 instead of ₱2,394.
If all legs but one are voided, the parlay becomes a single. If every leg is voided, the whole stake is returned. Some same-game parlays have special rules, and occasionally a void leg voids the entire SGP. See ano ang parlay for more on parlays.
Sport-specific void rules
Basketball
- Games usually need to be completed, or reach a minimum time played (often around 43 minutes in the NBA), for full-game bets to stand.
- Player props are void if the player doesn't take the court.
- Overtime counts for most full-game markets.
Football
- Bets are based on 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
- Abandoned matches: undecided markets void, decided markets stand.
- Postponed matches: void if not played within the book's time window.
Tennis
Retirement rules vary widely. Some books void match bets if a player retires before completing one set; others settle based on who advances. Always check.
Boxing and MMA
Fighter replacements void bets on the original fight. Changes to scheduled rounds can void round-betting markets. A technical draw or no contest often voids fight-winner bets.
Esports
Matches restarted due to technical issues, roster changes or forfeits can lead to voids. Rules on walkovers differ by book.
Real-world style examples
Example 1: Typhoon postponement
A UAAP game is postponed because of a typhoon signal and rescheduled for the following week. Your book's rule says games not played within 48 hours are void. Your ₱500 moneyline bet is voided and returned. If you still like the matchup, you can bet again when new odds are posted, though prices may have changed.
Example 2: The late scratch
You bet on a PBA player to score over 18.5 points. He's listed as active but doesn't enter the game. The prop is voided. If he had played even a few minutes and scored 2 points, the bet would usually stand and lose. That's why checking participation rules matters.
Example 3: The obvious error
A book briefly lists a heavy favourite at 8.00 instead of 1.08. You spot it and bet ₱1,000. The book voids the bet a few hours later citing its palpable error rule. Frustrating, but common. Some books resettle at the correct price instead of voiding.
Example 4: The abandoned football match
A match is abandoned in the 60th minute at 1-0. Your first-half result bet (Home to lead at half) had already won, so it stands. Your full-time over 2.5 goals bet is undecided and voided.
Voids and bonus funds
If you placed a bet with bonus money or a free bet, a void typically returns the bonus or free bet rather than cash. Voided bets usually don't count towards wagering requirements, since no real risk was taken. If you're close to clearing a bonus, a void can mean you need to place another qualifying bet. Check your book's bonus terms, and see our wagering requirements guide.

Why rules differ between sportsbooks
Each sportsbook writes its own rules, so the same event can be settled differently at two books. One book may void tennis bets on any retirement, while another settles them if one set was completed. One may require 43 minutes of an NBA game, another may allow a little less. These differences rarely matter, but when they do, they can decide whether you get your money back or lose it. If you bet frequently on a sport with tricky edge cases, like tennis or esports, it's worth reading each book's rules once.
Void bets at crypto sportsbooks
Crypto books handle voids the same way: the stake is returned to your balance in the currency you bet with, such as USDT or BTC. If you bet in a volatile coin, the peso value of your returned stake may differ from when you placed the bet, simply because the coin's price moved. Using stablecoins avoids that confusion. Voided stakes are available to bet or withdraw again, following the site's normal withdrawal rules.
Glossary
- Void: cancelled bet, stake returned.
- Push: result exactly on the line, stake returned.
- Palpable error: obvious pricing mistake that allows a book to void or resettle.
- Abandoned: event stopped and not completed.
- Postponed: event moved to a later date.
- Walkover: one side doesn't compete, often voiding bets.
What to do if you think a void is wrong
- Read the sport-specific rules in the book's terms.
- Contact support with your bet ID, the event and your reasoning.
- Ask for the specific rule used to void the bet.
- Escalate through the book's complaints process and, if needed, its regulator. For PAGCOR-licensed operators, that's PAGCOR; for offshore books, it's their foreign licensing authority.
How to reduce surprise voids
- Read the rules for props and tennis before betting.
- Avoid betting on events with uncertain status, such as weather-threatened games.
- Check that players are confirmed before betting props.
- Be wary of prices that look too good to be true; they may be errors.
Taglish recap
