Parlay sa esports? Ang sarap tingnan: three or four "sure" favourites from MPL PH, a Dota 2 match and a CS2 game, and the slip shows a payout six times your stake. Then one Bo1 upset happens and the whole thing is gone. Sound familiar?
This guide is for Filipino bettors who like esports parlays and want to stop donating to the sportsbook. We'll explain how the maths of an esports parlay works, why series format (Bo1, Bo3, Bo5) changes everything, how the bookmaker's margin stacks up with every leg you add, which legs fit together and which don't, and how to keep parlays as a fun, small part of your betting. Real talk, walang "sure win" dito.

What is an esports parlay?
A parlay (also called an accumulator or "acca") combines two or more selections into one bet. Every leg must win for the parlay to pay. The odds of each leg are multiplied together, so the payout grows fast.
Example (made up for illustration): you pick an MLBB match winner at 1.80, a Dota 2 match winner at 1.65 and a Valorant match winner at 2.10. The parlay odds are 1.80 x 1.65 x 2.10 = 6.24. A ₱500 stake would return about ₱3,119 if all three win (including your stake). If any one of them loses, you lose the ₱500.
You can check any combination quickly with our parlay calculator, and if decimal odds still confuse you, read betting odds explained first.
Why esports parlays are harder than they look
Esports have a few features that make parlays riskier than, say, a parlay of basketball favourites:
- Short formats. Many group-stage matches are Bo1 (best of one). One bad draft or one early mistake decides the whole match.
- Patches and meta shifts. A new patch can turn a strong team average overnight, and odds can lag behind or overreact.
- Roster changes and stand-ins. A missing player can change a team completely, and the news isn't always easy to find.
- Online vs LAN. Some teams perform very differently on stage than online.
- Limited data. Tier-2 and regional leagues have fewer matches and less reliable stats, which makes your estimates less accurate.
Each of these adds uncertainty to every leg. In a parlay, uncertainty multiplies.
Bo1 vs Bo3 vs Bo5: the most important esports parlay tip
The series format changes how often the favourite actually wins. Let's say a team has a 60% chance of winning any single game or map (a made-up number for illustration). Here's how often it wins the match in each format, assuming each map is independent:
| Chance to win one map/game | Bo1 | Bo3 | Bo5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 55% | 55.0% | 57.5% | 59.3% |
| 60% | 60.0% | 64.8% | 68.3% |
| 65% | 65.0% | 71.8% | 76.5% |
| 70% | 70.0% | 78.4% | 83.7% |
The longer the series, the more likely the better team wins. That's why the same team will have shorter odds in a Bo5 final than in a Bo1 group game against the same opponent.
What this means for parlays: Bo1 favourites are the classic parlay killer. If you stack three Bo1 favourites at 65% each, the chance all three win is only about 27.5%. Now take three Bo5 favourites with the same 65% edge per game: each wins the series about 76.5% of the time, so all three come in about 44.7% of the time. Same "strength" of favourite, very different parlay. Keep in mind the bookmaker knows this too, so Bo5 favourites come with shorter odds, and every leg still carries a margin, as the next section shows.
The margin stacks up with every leg
Every sportsbook builds a margin into its odds, so the payout is a bit less than the "fair" odds. Esports markets often carry a bigger margin than major football or basketball markets, especially on smaller leagues and props.
In a parlay, that margin compounds. If each leg has about a 5% margin (an illustrative figure; real margins vary), here's roughly how much of the fair payout you keep:
| Legs | Share of the fair payout you get | Lost to the margin |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | about 95.2% | about 4.8% |
| 2 | about 90.7% | about 9.3% |
| 3 | about 86.4% | about 13.6% |
| 4 | about 82.3% | about 17.7% |
| 5 | about 78.4% | about 21.6% |
Example (made up): four favourites that each truly win 70% of the time have fair odds of about 1.43 each, so a fair four-leg parlay would pay about 4.16. With a 5% margin on each leg, the book offers about 1.36 per leg, and the parlay pays about 3.43. Same picks, same chance of winning (about 24%), but about 18% less money when it lands.
The lesson: fewer legs, better prices. Two or three carefully chosen legs are usually better than six "sure" ones.
Correlated legs and same-match parlays
Two legs are "correlated" when one result makes the other more likely. Example: "Team A wins the match" and "Team A wins map 1". If Team A wins map 1, it's more likely to win the match.
Most sportsbooks don't let you combine correlated legs from the same match in a normal parlay, because it would give you an unfair advantage. Some offer a "bet builder" or "same game parlay" feature instead, where the price is adjusted for the correlation (and usually includes a healthy margin on top). Bet builders can be fun, but don't assume they're good value just because the legs "go together".
Correlation can also hurt you. If you parlay three teams from the same region whose results all depend on the same patch going a certain way, one wrong assumption about the meta can sink every leg at once. Spread your legs across different events and different reasons.
Esports parlay tips by game
Mobile Legends (MLBB)
MPL PH is one of the most-watched esports leagues in the country, and that means a lot of casual money on the popular teams. Popular teams can be priced a bit short because of that demand. Watch for roster news, check recent draft trends, and remember that many regular season series are Bo3. For more, see our MPL PH betting tips and MLBB odds explained.
Dota 2
Dota 2 games are long and drafts matter a lot. Group stages in big tournaments sometimes use Bo2 series, which can end in a draw, so check whether the market is a 2-way or 3-way result before adding it to a parlay. Our Dota 2 betting guide covers the main markets.
CS2
Map pools and map vetoes are everything in CS2. A team that dominates on its best map can struggle on the opponent's pick. Many events mix Bo1 and Bo3 matches, so check the format of every leg. See our CS2 betting guide.
Valorant
Like CS2, Valorant is map-based, and map handicap markets can be a better fit than straight match winners for heavy favourites. Read Valorant map handicap explained before using them in a parlay.
Which markets work best in an esports parlay?
| Market | Parlay fit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Match winner (Bo3/Bo5) | Good | Longer series reduce upset risk; check margins. |
| Match winner (Bo1) | Risky | High upset rate; use sparingly. |
| Map handicap (e.g. -1.5 maps) | Medium | Better price on strong favourites, but needs a clean sweep. |
| Total maps (over/under 2.5) | Medium | Useful when two teams are evenly matched. |
| First blood / first tower / props | Poor | Very random, often high margins. See MLBB first blood betting. |
| Outrights (tournament winner) | Poor | Your money is tied up for weeks; margins are usually wide. |
When an esports parlay actually makes sense
Parlays aren't always a mistake. They make the most sense when:
- You have a genuine opinion on each leg, and each price looks fair or better than fair to you.
- The legs are independent, from different matches and ideally different games or regions.
- The stake is small and you treat it as a fun, high-payout ticket, not as your main betting plan.
- A promotion improves the price, such as an odds boost on a specific parlay. Read the terms carefully, but a real boost can tilt the maths in your favour a little.
They make the least sense when you're using them to chase losses, to turn a small balance into a big one quickly, or to "make the odds worth it" on short-priced favourites you wouldn't bet as singles. Kung hindi mo itataya ang isang leg nang mag-isa, huwag mo rin isama sa parlay.
A simple esports parlay checklist
- Two or three legs, not six. Each extra leg adds margin and risk.
- Check the format (Bo1, Bo2, Bo3, Bo5) of every match.
- Check rosters on the day: stand-ins and late changes are common.
- Know the patch. Big balance changes can flip the form guide.
- Avoid legs you only added to "boost" the odds. Every leg should be a bet you'd make on its own.
- Compare prices if you can, and skip legs where the odds look shorter than your own estimate.
- Use a small, fixed stake, for example 1% or less of your betting bankroll per parlay.
- Accept losses. Even good parlays lose most of the time.

Example: two ways to bet the same weekend (made up for illustration)
Carlo from Laguna has ₱10,000 set aside for betting this month. He likes three matches this weekend: an MPL PH Bo3, a Dota 2 Bo3 and a CS2 Bo1.
Plan A, the "big parlay": he adds four more Bo1 favourites from smaller leagues to reach seven legs and puts ₱1,000 on it for a big number on the slip. Even if every leg were a strong 70% shot, seven legs together win only about 8% of the time, and the margin has eaten roughly 30% of the fair payout.
Plan B, the "tight parlay": he drops the CS2 Bo1, puts ₱100 on a two-leg parlay of the two Bo3 favourites he likes most, and bets ₱100 as a single on the CS2 match. Less exciting, but the money lasts the whole month and every bet is one he actually believes in.
Neither plan guarantees profit. Plan B just keeps the margin and the variance under control, and keeps betting as entertainment instead of a monthly wipeout.
Turn odds into a percentage before you add a leg
A quick habit that improves every parlay: convert each price into its implied probability. With decimal odds, divide 100 by the odds.
| Decimal odds | Implied chance | Ask yourself |
|---|---|---|
| 1.65 | about 60.6% | Does this team really win 6 out of 10 times in this format? |
| 1.80 | about 55.6% | Is this closer to a coin flip than the hype suggests? |
| 2.10 | about 47.6% | Is the underdog actually close to even? |
| 6.24 (the 3-leg parlay above) | about 16.0% | Am I okay losing this bet roughly 5 times out of 6? |
The implied chance includes the bookmaker's margin, so the "true" chance the book believes in is a bit lower. If your honest estimate for a leg is lower than the implied chance, that leg is costing you money and doesn't belong in the parlay. If you can't estimate it at all, that's also a sign to leave it out. Our odds calculator does the conversion for you.
Parlay vs singles: same picks, different ride
Take the three picks from the first example (1.80, 1.65 and 2.10) and ₱300 to spend. Here's how the two approaches compare (made up for illustration):
- One ₱300 parlay: pays about ₱1,871 if all three win. If even one loses, you get nothing.
- Three ₱100 singles: if all three win you get back ₱555 (₱180 + ₱165 + ₱210). If two of three win, you still get something back, for example ₱345 if the 2.10 pick is the one that loses.
The parlay has a bigger ceiling but loses far more often. Singles give a smoother ride and let a good read still pay even when one pick goes wrong. Neither is "better" for everyone, but for most casual bettors a mix works well: mostly singles, with a small parlay on the side for fun.
Track your parlays honestly
Most bettors remember the big parlay that hit and forget the twenty that didn't. A simple record fixes that. After every parlay, write down the date, the games and formats, number of legs, odds, stake and result. After a month or two, add up your total staked and total returned. If you're well behind, that's your answer about how much the parlays are really costing, and it's much better to learn it from a spreadsheet than from an empty wallet.
A notes app on your phone is enough. The point is to see your real results, not the ones you remember.
Live betting and cash out in esports parlays
Some sportsbooks let you add live legs or cash out a parlay early. Cash out can be useful if your situation changes, but the cash-out price usually includes another margin, so using it all the time costs money. Live esports odds also move very fast and can be suspended during key moments like team fights or the bomb plant. Read our esports live betting tips if you want to try it.
Where to bet esports parlays with crypto
Our main recommendation for Filipino esports bettors who want a crypto sportsbook is Cloudbet, which covers major esports like Dota 2, CS2, Valorant and Mobile Legends (market depth varies by event). A few facts from Cloudbet's own help pages and terms:
- Crypto deposits: BTC, ETH, USDT (several networks), USDC, LTC, DOGE, XRP, SOL and more. Our esports betting with GCash guide shows how to go from pesos to crypto.
- Welcome package: up to $2,500 over 30 days, activated by your first deposit, made up of rakeback and cash drops. Check the current promotions page for what applies to sports and esports.
- Withdrawals: typically processed within 24 hours according to Cloudbet's help article, with network fees shown before you confirm.
- Licensing: Cloudbet is licensed in Curaçao, not by PAGCOR. Philippine law treats online gambling not licensed by PAGCOR as illegal, so understand the risk before you bet.
Before you place an esports parlay anywhere, check the sportsbook's rules on what happens if a match is postponed, a map is replayed or a team forfeits. Usually that leg is voided and the parlay recalculates with fewer legs, but rules differ.
Common esports parlay mistakes
- Stacking Bo1 favourites and calling it "safe".
- Adding legs just to make the payout look exciting.
- Betting on your favourite team every week regardless of the price.
- Ignoring roster and patch news.
- Chasing a lost parlay with a bigger one the next day.
- Treating props like first blood as "easy" legs. They're often closer to a coin flip with a margin on top.
Is esports betting legal in the Philippines?
Philippine law treats online gambling not licensed by PAGCOR as illegal, and offshore crypto sportsbooks like Cloudbet are licensed in Curaçao, not by PAGCOR. You must be 21 or older to gamble in the Philippines. Read our esports betting Philippines guide for more on the legal side.
Play responsibly
Parlays are designed to be exciting, and that's exactly why they're easy to overdo. Keep stakes small, decide your monthly betting budget in advance, and never bet money meant for bills, school or family. If betting is causing problems, call the PAGCOR helpline at (02) 8248-9568 or visit our responsible gambling page. Our bankroll management guide can also help you set limits.
Mga Madalas Itanong (FAQ)
What is an esports parlay?
A single bet that combines two or more esports selections. All legs must win, and the odds are multiplied together.
How many legs should an esports parlay have?
Usually two or three. Each extra leg adds the bookmaker's margin again and makes the parlay much less likely to win.
Are Bo1 matches good for parlays?
They're risky. Bo1 matches have more upsets because one game decides everything. Bo3 and Bo5 favourites win more often.
Can I combine legs from the same esports match?
Usually not in a standard parlay, because the results are correlated. Some sportsbooks offer a bet builder for same-match combinations with adjusted prices.
What happens if an esports match in my parlay is postponed?
It depends on the sportsbook's rules. Often the leg is voided and the parlay pays on the remaining legs, but check the rules first.
Is there a sure-win esports parlay strategy?
No. Every parlay includes the bookmaker's margin on every leg. The best you can do is keep legs few, prices fair and stakes small.
Should I use the bet builder for esports parlays?
Only if you understand the pricing. Bet builders price correlated legs from the same match together and usually include a margin, so compare the total price with what you think the combined chance really is before using one.
